About Us

Hotel Saint George is a 55-room hotel in Marfa built to represent the authentic historical roots of a desert community steeped in art and culture. Constructed on the footprint of an 1880s-era hotel of the same name, Hotel Saint George is the re-imagining of Marfa’s original grand property, which operated until 1929 and served as the primary accommodation for incoming railroad travelers and cowboys. Likewise, this new incarnation has become the communal epicenter of Marfa – a comfortable landing spot for ranchers and Texas old-timers, as well as for contemporary visitors drawn by the town’s diverse and expanding range of cultural offerings. Hotel Saint George is a genuine Marfa endeavor, immersed in local character – with many of the people who planned, selected, and crafted elements of the hotel living, working, and grounded in town.

Owned by longtime Marfa resident Tim Crowley and designed by Houston-based architecture firm Carlos Jimenez Studio, Hotel Saint George’s four stories feature many architectural and interior details that resonate with Marfa’s present artistic culture—as pioneered most notably by Donald Judd—while paying homage to the past. Throughout the hotel, guests are treated to a complementary relationship of reused raw, industrial materials, minimalist design furnishings and fixtures from local makers, melded with an expansive fine art collection that has a distinctive sense of place.

Interspersed with columns dating back to the hotel’s original era, the reception area mixes vintage furnishings and industrial pieces, including an expansive mahogany check-in desk and white steel cylinder hanging lamps, both created by local maker SILLA. The hotel’s public spaces include the restaurant LaVenture, offering elevated, regionally-inspired takes on New American classics, along with Bar Saint George, a lively bar, lounge, and daytime dining spot.

Hotel Saint George’s 49 guestrooms and six suites offer an elegant blend of contemporary elements— with materials such as distressed leather and lustered steel—blended with softer design touches and accented with paintings by artist Mark Flood. Each high-ceilinged room provides a distinct viewpoint through windows overlooking Marfa’s surrounding plateaus and mountains, such as the breathtaking Chinati Peak, which juts from the landscape at over 7,700 feet in elevation.

Next door to the hotel is Saint George Hall, a multifaceted public venue constructed with distinctive bright red and pink salvaged bricks, which includes a 5,600-square-foot event space equipped to host concerts, weddings, and large-scale gatherings. It additionally houses a conference room and shaded, walled patio space set with Judd-designed, benched tables. Tucked behind the hall is The Pool, an expansive outdoor pool, bar and grill setting open seasonally. All spaces are available for private rental.

Hotel Saint George sits squarely in the middle of Marfa’s thriving arts community, and is walking distance to many of the town’s galleries, distinctive shops, and historic landmarks, including the Chinati Foundation, Judd Foundation, and Ballroom Marfa.
